Four Years Later

... And we finally did our Gingerbread House Kit!

In fact, it actually ended up being quite a learning experience.

I learned that Ben and I think very differently when it comes to things like mixing frosting. Ben thinks he's really funny. (Okay, I admit that he is really funny and even when a mess is imminent, I can't help but laugh at his antics ... eventually).

But in the end, all that matters is that our little candies could finally come together after sitting in our Christmas box for four years to make a happy gingerbread home!

I love watching Ben at work on creative projects.

And then Ben was standing in the kitchen with the camera and I knew he wasn't really taking a picture of the finished house from a "good angle". ... Yes, I'm attached to that cord. I've resorted to attaching a heating pad to my back. And to add to the warm awesomeness, I can't reach the sink or dishwasher so ...

After a short while our masterpiece was completed and I can now present to you the final work of art:

(in case you can't tell, that's a snowman out front with little chocolate twig arms ... unfortunately, he doesn't have a face)

And then, in the process of taking this picture, I discovered Ben doesn't like "leaning in" in pictures. So instead I wind up with a picture of half a husband!

Luckily, we were able to compromise and pull the house forward so he didn't have to lean and I got to see his whole face in the picture.

I'm glad Ben humors me sometimes. I've been wanting to decorate this house for years but I'd usually forget about it until after Christmas. This year he was nice enough to sit down and do it with me.

I definitely appreciate the time he spends with me. There's never a dull moment with him around. But I'm sure anyone who knows him, already knows this. It's just one of the many reasons that I love that he's my family now. And even when we can't be with our families during the holidays I still feel very much at home with him no matter who we are with or what we're doing, especially when it's things like decorating gingerbread houses, looking at Christmas lights and watching cheesy Christmas movies.

I wish we could see all our family this Christmas but I'm very happy with the one person I do get to spend it with. I'm still trying to process that this will be our last Christmas just the two of us. But that's a blog for another time.

Merry Christmas! ... in a day and a few hours

So happy to see that you two are so happy. Reading your blog took me back in time to when Grandpa and I first were married and living in Student Housing waiting for our new little one. Seems like only yesterday, but much, much, much has happened since. So many memories. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and pictures. I love you soooooo much--my first grandchild, waiting for my first great grandchild. Such a special time for us all.

Ben always did make the best graham cracker houses when we used to make them as kids....

I love the heating pad attached to your back.

Merry Christmas!
