I got crafty

I've been planning to make this for months but it's seriously been too uncomfortable to spend that much time bent over a piece of fabric. On Monday I finally forced myself to go to the fabric store and I grabbed some okay fabric that was on sale. There were cuter patterns but I had a feeling this would be a very subpar quality product when I was through so I didn't want to buy expensive fancy stuff and end up ruining it.

Turns out I was right. I think it definitely turned out okay but my sewing machine is old and doesn't do a very good job. ... Or else I don't know how to set it to the right settings. Or maybe both. The stitches are never even so I couldn't add the "finished look" around the edges because that just made it look like a tattered rag instead of what it was supposed to be.

I also realized I have no idea how to sew on velcro. And, once again, my sewing machine did not want to help me out with this. I had to sew, unstitch, sew, unstitch and sew at least a bazillion times. And it was seriously a total of maybe 4 inches. Who would have thought it would take me 3 times as long to sew 4 inches as it would to put together the entire rest of the project. Blah!

Anyway, I'm glad it's done. I really need to figure out how to sew velcro though. It's still bugging me. I tried watching a you tube clip which made me think it really must be my sewing machine and not me because the demonstrator made it look so easy! Is it normal for a sewing machine to hate velcro so much? It is sewable velcro after all.

Anyway, here is my final product:

An Infant Car Seat Canopy. 

I figured the hassle of spending one day trying to sew two velcro straps was still worth the amount we saved in making this. Even if it isn't as pretty as the ones you can find online.
