My halloween costume made me better appreciate life

Halloween is coming up and so I decided to be a doctor. My main reason for choosing this "costume" was that I have been wanting to get some scrubs for awhile and this gave me the perfect excuse. Also, every doctor needs a stethoscope so I ordered one of those online. I got the stethoscope a couple days ago and Ben and I have been playing with it ever since.

Well, today I left work early because I had a really bad headache and I went home and took a nap. A couple hours after dozing off the doorbell rang and it was the UPS guy with my scrubs. PERFECT. I immediately changed into my oh so comfy Halloween costume and went back to bed, but I decided to bring the stethoscope with me because it's great for blocking out noise. (Plus it's just fun to play with). Well I was just checking my email while I listened to my heartbeat and I noticed that every once in awhile my heartbeat would speed up a little and then go back to it's normal heart rate. So for the last ten minutes the only thing I have been able to hear (because the stethoscope is VERY good at blocking out any other noise) is my heart beat and my breathing. It's kind of an interesting thing to experience. Anyway, it got me thinking that all it takes is this tiny organ to stop working in anyone's body and life is over. I guess I usually think of it like, the heart keeps us alive but I hadn't ever thought about how easy it would be for this organ to just quit working. I know this is a weird post but I appreciate my working heart and all my other working organs. And I'm glad I got this comfy Halloween costume to help me appreciate all that.

That's awesome - isn't the human body AMAZING? My testimony was totally strengthened when I took my anatomy class - I totally understand what you're talking about. And scrubs are awesome! :)
