Learning

I'm learning how to figure out if a pipe is leaking or if it's a bigger issue like a water heater leaking and flooding two floors.

I'm learning that nothing ever happens when you want it to. In fact, most issues are going to happen after I've put the pajamas on for the night or before I get dressed for the day.

I'm learning that I can surprise people by being a girl and knowing how to shut off a water heater or fix a garbage disposal.

I'm learning how to respond when things don't go my way.

I'm learning that some people really don't know how to use a dishwasher. (This still sort of blows my mind but I'm trying to accept the reality of it).

I'm learning that sometimes people just need to complain to someone, anyone, even if there's nothing that can be done.

I'm learning.

I wouldn't say my job is all bad or all good. But it is fun, most of the time. Unless it's not.

It gives me stuff to do and it keeps me entertained. I could be sitting at a desk right now, bored out of my mind, counting down the hours until I get to go home; instead, I'm sitting in my living room, with a book and my space heater. I've spent the day emailing a few people, exercising while watching a documentary, talking with our maintenance guys, getting apartments dry from the "flood" and replacing window blinds.

I'm not saying 'this is the life' but ... I never would have guessed being an apartment manager would teach me so much about every day things that are really useful to know.

They don't use them at all, Bill! Well, they didn't for 6 months. They came down the other day and asked us if we could show them how it works. I was baffled.

what? someone who doesn't know how to use a dishwasher? they must be foreign or really sheltered and haven't had to do a single chore growing up.

that would be an entertaining job for sure. can't beat a good book and a space heater!:) i'd rather that than a normal job any day.
